I created this painting/collage right before I left for my trip to the Philippines last month, while listening to Hella Pinay’s radio show. I used images from the Arts of Asia magazine, when they featured the history of the Filipinana, as well as Hella Pinay’s last print magazine. I sent a photo of my finished creation to HP just to share my gratitude and thank them for existing and inspiring me to continue to explore our Filipino roots and prepare myself for more soul searching on my trip.

Never did I expect anything to come out of my letter to them, only hoping they would connect a little bit to my art.. but they reached back out to me when I came back to the states and said they were interested in including me in their next issue. If this taught me anything so far, it’s that I need to dream bigger. This was the result of me trusting myself and grounding myself in love.
